John Denver, a singer-songwriter from Colorado who specialized in folk-pop music touched the hearts of millions. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was born in Roswell, New Mexico. He fell in love Colorado and eventually settled in Aspen. Denver's famous anthems about Colorado are a source of inspiration for many to move to the state. G. Brown, curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame declared the following: John Denver is the only musician to truly embody Colorado. Denver was the Hall of Fame's first to be inducted into the hall. He has become the personification of the state to people all over. Certainly in my travels you meet someone from the other end of the planet, one of New Zealand and you say 'I'm of Colorado and the first word that comes that comes out of their mouths is"Oh John Denver! Brown stated. Denver's first Top 10 hit as a solo artist following a brief period of performing with small folk bands comprised of Take Me Home Country Roads co-written with Bill Danoff. Danoff originally wrote it using Johnny Cash's songs in mind, but Denver realized from the first time he heard the first versions of the song that it would be a big success. The song was recorded just several weeks after the Washington D.C. performance.
